The Tennessee Jewish Heritage Digital Archive Project is a digital repository that seeks to make accessible photographs and historical information related to Tennessee's Jewish communities past and present.
Too often, modern day developments are planned and constructed at the expense of unrecognized sites of cultural and religious significance. Conducting a statewide survey of buildings and sites connected to the rich history of Tennessee's Jewish communities was the first step in understanding how the physical landscape was shaped by the Jewish community. Through community support and information exchanges, sites central to Jewish life and culture have been documented alongside those no longer actively used by the Jewish community to help show how the forces of rural decline and urban development have impacted Jewish place making in Tennessee.
